The R&D
department
An in-house department building professional music gear and instruments for extreme metal. Hardware, electronics and tools designed from the physics up, prototyped on the bench and proven in the studio. The Black Urn is the flagship. More is in the works.
On the bench
Black Urn
A proprietary, ultra high-end audio interface. Working prototype, in active development, built to be the final stage of a fully analogue chain.
Tremolo plectra
Plectra engineered for sustained high-speed tremolo picking with low hand fatigue. Designed here, manufactured here, sold at perkelium.com.
More pro gear & instruments
Further professional music gear and instruments are in active development. Details are kept in-house until each one is ready to be shown. Announcements land on Instagram and YouTube first.
Physics first. Analogue always.
Every project starts from the physics of sound and the demands of extreme metal, and ends in a studio that refuses plugins and modelling of any kind.
The department is run by the same PhD physicist who engineers the studio's records and plays in Perkelium. Prototypes are tested in sessions, on real tube amplifiers, at real volume, on real tremolo passages. If it doesn't survive a blast beat, it doesn't ship.
How a project moves
- Problem. Something the genre needs and the market doesn't make.
- Physics. Worked out from first principles before a part is ordered.
- Prototype. Built on the bench, measured, then used on a record.
- Protect. Core technology filed for patent where it matters.
- Ship. Only when it is better than what we already have.
Progress is public. Designs are not.
